DeDe Priest, Phil Buchanan, and Faye Wattleton bring expertise from the corporate, philanthropic, and nonprofit arenas
Arlington, VA (October 22, 2019) – The National Council on Aging (NCOA) is pleased to announce that DeDe Priest has been named Chair-Elect of its Board of Directors, and that Phil Buchanan and Faye Wattleton have joined as Board members. All three thought leaders bring a wealth of knowledge and commitment to support NCOA’s goal of improving the lives of 40 million older adults by 2030.
DeDe Priest is a food and retail executive with over 30 years of achieving sustained growth in top and bottom-line results across retail and consumer packaged goods. Priest is a change champion with a record of exceeding diverse customer needs. A future-thinker with vast understanding of trends and market growth segments, she inspires all to exceed their expectations. Priest led every food business while at Walmart for nearly 13 years and accomplished tremendous scaled consumer success.
“NCOA is thrilled that DeDe has agreed to chair our board starting October 2020 as we enter a new and exciting chapter of growth,” said James Knickman, chair of the NCOA Board of Directors. “DeDe is a true visionary, and her insight and leadership will be key in guiding NCOA’s vision of a just and caring society where every person is able to age with health and economic security.”
Phil Buchanan, president of CEP, is a passionate advocate for the importance of philanthropy and the nonprofit sector and is deeply committed to the cause of helping foundations and individual donors to maximize their impact. He is author of Giving Done Right: Effective Philanthropy and Making Every Dollar Count, released in the spring of 2019. Buchanan also is co-founder of YouthTruth, an initiative of CEP’s designed to harness student perceptions to help educators and funders accelerate improvements in K–12 schools and classrooms. In 2016, he was named The Nonprofit Times “influencer of the year.”
Faye Wattleton joined Buffkin/Baker as a partner and co-leader in June 2018. Over three decades, Wattleton has amassed an extraordinary track record for leadership, both as a CEO of national not-for-profit organizations and as a board member of numerous public and private corporations, academic institutions, and high-impact philanthropic organizations. She served as Co-Founder and President of the Center for the Advancement of Women and from 1978 to 1992 served as President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
“NCOA is extremely fortunate to welcome Phil and Faye to its board. They have demonstrated a unique commitment to making the world a better place through philanthropy and advancing equality for women,” Knickman said. “We look forward to their insights and leadership.”
