During this holiday season, NCOA’s National Institute of Senior Centers staff would like to extend a note of gratitude and well wishes for the senior center professionals from across the country who offer their time and expertise to support the senior center field, their colleagues and older adults.
As 2019 draws to a close, we want to thank the members of the
NISC Executive Team for their hard work, vision, and impact on senior center
outcomes: Elizabeth Bernat (NISC Chair), Tracey Colagrossi (Chair Elect –
Membership), Lynn Fields Harris (Past Chair), Pat Branson (Public Policy), Laura
Cisneros and Beverly Ferry (Economic Security), Jill Hall (100 Million
Healthier Lives), and Malia Fox (Best Practices).
We also want to thank members of the NISC Accreditation Board
who work diligently to professionalize the senior center field with national
standards, achievement, and best practices: Christine Beatty (Chair), Barbara
Fentress, Sandi Johnson, Jill Kranz, Jill Jackson-Ledford, Carol Reagan, and
Patricia Schneider. And many thanks to the 30 peer reviewers from 16
states who take personal time to travel, lend their expertise, and promote
excellence in senior centers.
In 2020, we hope that many other senior center professionals
will choose to share their experience and knowledge by joining one of the NISC
teams or responding to other invitations to be connected nationally. If you are
interested in exploring the opportunities, please reach out to either Scott or
me.
Also, a big thank you to the 92 senior center professionals who shared
a senior center programming nomination during this year’s Awards of Excellence competition.
It is inspiring to see your creativity and innovation in practice.
This year, we were thrilled to meet many of you at the 2019 NCOA
Age+Action Conference held in Washington, DC. Thank you to the Leo Laks
keynote presenter Dr. Manoj Pardasani, who was both inspirational and
entertaining. He shared humorous reflections from when he was a senior center
professional and educated us about the importance of evaluation. And of course,
many thanks to the senior center professionals who were presenters. They contributed
to a comprehensive training opportunity. We look forward to seeing you
again at Age+Action 2020, June 8-10, in Dallas, TX!
Finally, a note of thanks to ALL senior center professionals.
Thank you for all you do for our nation’s older adults. Your contribution
locally makes a world of difference.
Happy Holidays!
